These monotypes are inspired by several recent trips to Turkey. The visuals of this beautiful country were so powerful yet I didn’t want to simply record what I saw. I was more interested in conveying the feeling of being there. What came out were the textures, patterns, and colors of this ancient culture.

I printed each monotype multiple times using veils of color in various patterns. As the series developed I started including elements such as plant life and iconic images from different eras in Turkish history. The multi-layered quality speaks to vast amount of visual stimulus and the added elements speaks to the immense trajectory of time and history that I observed.
