This drawing was superimposed on a tourist's map of Rapid City. The map also happened to be the exact location of my daily walk. I glued it onto the paper, then gessoed it strategically to leave the roads visible as a stand-in for stems. The red letters of Rapid City were in the perfect place to imitate the color of asparagus seed pods. During that Fall I flagged the plants with tape hoping to find them again when the asparagus was first up the following spring.
This drawing is now in the collection of a fellow hiker who was also drawn to this system of trails.
