I have spent years painting and drawing on location and have come up with a hassle-free approach to recording my journeys. Since much of my travel has been international or via motorcycle, I've often been faced with limited space as well as limited time. To make life easier I’ve devised a simplified approach to drawing and painting on location that gives great results.
This class will advise you on materials, media, papers, and essential equipment. I will teach you how to create images in watercolor, gouache, colored pencil or graphite. These small gems from your travels will be inspiration for larger work once you return home.

Join me outside in the glorious Black Hills for a day in nature! I will work with students one on one to help find the technique that’s right for you.
With an MFA in printmaking from Utah State University and over 20 years teaching university level drawing I can help you to develop skill and find your voice.

In my classes and private lessons, I encourage personal expression on a foundation of basic technical skills. My goal is to lead individual temperaments to express their natural abilities and find self-motivation and confidence.

My dual background in museum work and studio art allows me to offer a unique perspective on teaching. While the curatorial profession taught me to uphold the highest of professional practices and explore intellectual endeavors, studio art’s emphasis on creativity taught me to value personal expression. The intersection of these two worlds is what I offer to my students.

I also teach private lessons including drawing, printmaking, and watercolor out of South Street Studio, located in Rapid City, SD. Contact me through this website for details.
