This series started as a tribute to my mother soon after she passed away in 2006. Since that time I have been commissioned to created memorials to loved ones as well as for various occasions.
You can commission your own Remember When photo/encaustic painting to honor a friend, relative, pet, place, your childhood home, or an event. Using a scan of a meaningful image, I weave together a color scheme and pattern based upon your stories which express how you see that person or event. I consider fashion, colors, and styles of the era and create a decorative border in encaustic, leaving the center for the photograph. I can also integrate actual materials such as a scrap of clothing. I have included ashes of loved ones in the colored wax. Since it is created using a 2" deep cradle board there is room for you to place ashes or other meaningful items safely in the back.
A commission for Remember When is guided by your memories and my research into the life and times of that era. We start by talking over Skype where I listen to stories about your loved one and the things that made them special. Next, you send a high resolution scan, which keeps your precious photograph intact. As I develop my interpretation we talk again. I may ask you to show me mementos to help me get a more complete idea of who this person was and how they have impacted your life.
Commission are priced starting at $550.00 for 8"x10" on up. Please contact me for more information. DeborahMitchellArtist@gmail.com
