Abstractions
Abstractions:
I began this series of paintings by applying a toned ground and random marks with no real plan or intention other than wanting to experiment with abstraction.
Some clearly had a suggestion of where to start and I began working on the ones which spoke the loudest. As I painted, I got into a rhythm and developed an approach that could be best described as "Transactional", "Relational", or "Conditional".
First, I created a "condition" on the canvas then responded to it by trying to balance, relate, or activate marks on the surface. When I became stuck, I kept turning the canvas and "solving" each orientation.
I love to paint unleashed and flowing in pure expression instead of being a slave to the subject!
